Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley held their August membership meeting, August 12, at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street, in North Aurora.

Guest speaker for this month’s meeting was Diabetes Club member, Dr. Kinsley Jin, from Aunt Martha’s Aurora Healthcare, 2124 Ogden Avenue, in Aurora.
Dr. Jin practices in family medicine with a special interest in diabetes management.
Dr. Jin spoke about the diabetes epidemic in our country, stating, there are about 115 million people who are pre-diabetic, and every 21 seconds another American is diagnosed with diabetes. He added that lifestyle changes could have a big impact on our diabetes: diet, exercise, socialization, and stress management are all beneficial.
Dr. Jin said if your A1C is less than 6.5 for three months without any medication, you are considered to be in remission. Losing weight and a plant based diet generally will reduce your blood sugars. He believes that group support is very important for people with diabetes, and suggested that our Diabetes Club and Aunt Martha’s Healthcare, hold a “Walk to Fight Diabetes” in the future!
