The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley (DCFV) celebrated its first full year of service to the Fox Valley area Thursday, Oct. 12, at the regularly-scheduled monthly meeting, with 25 members and guests in attendance.
Following dinner, the Club’s meeting was opened with a silent prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the DCFV Pledge. Members heard from each of the officers and committee chairpersons regarding their areas of responsibility.
DCFV treasurer, Jackie Klaisner, reported that the Club’s bank account was well over $10,000, with $5,000 in the “Jerry Youngren Diabetic Alert Dog Fund.”
Election of officers and Board members were held. The following officers were elected: Russ George, president; Chuck Nelson, first vice president; Matt McCain, second vice president; Pat Jones, secretary; Jackie Klaisner, treasurer; Jimmy Schmidt, sergeant-at-arms; Ed Carroll, chaplain. In addition to the officers, the following members will serve as Board members: Tony Arch, Elena Blackwell, Ann McBride, Jenny McCain, and Kenlyn Nash-Demeter.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley had a successful first year, having raised thousands of dollars for its fight against diabetes. The Club participated in several events to bring an awareness of diabetes. DCFV was a partner with the Aurora Lions Club to invest in research, to find a cure for diabetes at UChicago Medicine’s, Kovler Diabetes Center.
The 50 members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley are dedicated to bringing an awareness of diabetes, provide aid and education for diabetics, along with investing in research to find a cure!
Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8:30 a.m., members of DCFV will be in downtown Aurora, at Society 57, 100 S River Street, for a meet and greet.
November is National Diabetes Awareness month, which will find Club members and friends attending the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley’s, “Make a Goal to Fight Diabetes” Chicago Steel hockey game, at Fox Valley Ice Arena, in Geneva. The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a true grassroots organization, where all money raised through dues, donations and fundraising is used locally for the club’s fight against diabetes.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month, at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate, 211 N. River Street, in Montgomery. Social/dinner is at 5:30 p.m., and meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. with guests always welcome!
