Members and friends of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley (DCFV) gathered together Friday, Dec. 6, for the Club’s third annual holiday party, at Oak Street Restaurant in North Aurora.
The evening began at 6 p.m., with a social gathering and buffet dinner. Following dinner a raffle was held of several donated gift baskets, along with door prize drawings. A wrapped gift exchange game concluded the evening festivities, as each member chose a wrapped gift, or one that was already opened. Some gifts were passed back and forth many times, until the last gift was opened.
Russ George, president of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley, thanked everyone for attending the club’s third annual holiday party. He thanked everyone who donated items for the raffles, and the club’s holiday party committee consisting of Mary Arch, Marilyn George, and Jenny McCain.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley thanks George Pappas and his staff at Oak Street Restaurant for a wonderful buffet dinner and great service.
George, also announced that Brian Dolan, Neal and Mary Clark Ormond have become members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley, to bring the Club’s total membership to 61.
Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley work together, to raise an awareness of diabetes and prediabetes in the Fox Valley area. Club members raise funds to provide aid, education and research to find a cure for diabetes.
Nationally, more than 38 million Americans, approximately 12% of our population, have diabetes, including children. Even more concerning, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimates that 97 million individuals in the United States are prediabetic.
Warning signs that you may be diabetic are: Urinating often, feeling very thirsty, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts/bruises that are slow to heal, feeling very hungry even though you are eating more, weight loss—even through you are eating more, and tingling pain or numbness in your hands/feet.
Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage, and loss of limbs. Diet and exercise are two of the most powerful tools we have to help control our blood glucose. Eat healthy, stay active, and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes-free!
