Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley held their April membership meeting Wednesday, April 9, at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street, in North Aurora.

Guest speakers were Mike Nelson, Director of Community Events, for Aurora, and Felicia Freitag, who manages the Aurora Farmers Market.
Mike Nelson, enlightened everyone to all the events that will be happening this spring and summer in Aurora.
Here’s just a few of the upcoming events: The Food Truck Festival will be held Friday, May 2, with many more vendors than last year. Tuesday, May 13, will be the inauguration of John Laesch, who will be Aurora’s, 60th mayor. There will be many events on Water Street Mall and at the Venue. The Bold Series at Copley Theatre, along with all the scheduled flag-raisings. Rivers Edge Park will be closed until late fall, however, the Fourth of July parade is already scheduled, and there will be a gigantic fireworks display. The Stolp Island Block Party will be held again this summer, Friday, Aug. 1.
Felicia Freitag, began her presentation by stating that this was her first opportunity to speak at one of our membership meetings, and that her father is a diabetic.
She spoke about this year’s Farmers Market, being held in downtown Aurora, in the Water Street parking lot between East Benton Street and East Downer Place that will begin Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. New this year will be a Kids Club, complete with activities for children and will include a petting zoo, on a few of the Saturdays. She said they usually have 40 to 45 vendors, but is hoping to add another 10 to 15 vendors this year. Parking for seniors will be at the north end, requiring you to enter from Water Street, off of Downer Place, not Benton Street.
The smaller Farmers Market held at West Aurora Plaza, on Wednesdays, in the old Walmart parking lot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will run for 8 weeks, beginning Wednesday, July 2, through Wednesday, Aug. 20.
The Farmers Market uses Link Match, which allows recipients to double the value of their card.
Mike Nelson and Felicia Felicia answered a lot of questions from our members, following their presentation.
