Twenty-five percent of diabetics will have a foot ulcer in their lifetime, and 85% of diabetics who have had an amputation, had a foot ulcer. There is a 55% mortality rate after an amputation, within five years”. Dr. Olson said “Diabetics should seek medical help with any wound, and most of their referrals come from Home Health Care workers”.

Dr. Konopelski said “Patients must meet certain standards to be able to be served: Their diabetes must be controlled; If they are a smoker, they need to quit, and patients must be willing to follow our program,” he stated “If a wound hasn’t healed in 10 days, it’s a problem”!
