The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley held its third annual “Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes” golf outing and banquet, Friday, June 20, at Bliss Creek Golf Course, 1 Golf View Road, in Sugar Grove, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The morning started out warm and rainy, however, the rain completely stopped at noon, it became windy and behold the sun appeared, allowing more than 80 golfers an opportunity to play on a hot and sunny afternoon.
When all the golfers completed their rounds, it was time for the banquet to begin, in the air-conditioned Pine Room, allowing all the golfers and guests to enjoy a delicious steak dinner with all the trimmings.
Immediately following dinner, golf committee co-chair, Matt McCain announced the winners and handed out the prizes for random contests held during the outing. Top team for this year was won by the Progressive Energy group.
The basket raffle and silent auction followed, with baskets valued from $80 to more than $500 in value.
The 50/50 cash drawing was the last drawing of the evening, which was won by a Diabetes Club member, who donated the winnings back to our Club’s, “Jerry Youngren Diabetic and Therapy Animal Support Fund”, to help purchase a diabetic alert dog, for Olive, an eight year old, type 1 diabetic.
Russ George, president, ended the evening by thanking everyone in attendance, including the Club’s golf committee, Adam Broholm, golf chair; Matt McCain, golf co-chair; Jenny McCain, fundraising chair; Tony Arch, Joanie Boldan, Paul Buddy, Edible Carroll, Kevin Dempsey, Jimmy Klingel, Pat Jones, Destanie Lemon, Carlos Martinez, Kari Mathieu, Ann McBride, and Chuck Nelson. He went on to thank Jason Crane from The Voice and Scott Mackay from 95.9 The River, for their help in promoting the golf outing. He gave a shoutout of thanks to Bliss Creek Golf Course and staff members, and a huge thank you to all the golfers, who played today, for supporting our fight against diabetes.
