Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley are participating in Aurora’s First Fridays annual “Stolp Block Party”, Friday, Aug. 1.
Stolp Avenue will be closed between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard, in downtown Aurora.
It’s a celebration of community, and everyone is welcome, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m..

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley will be at Aurora alderman Carl Franco’s, Fifth Ward National Night Out (NNO), Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Washington Park, 233 Constitution Drive, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Participants can enjoy the free music, games, pizza, and beverages!
Stop by our Tent! Pick up literature explaining prediabetes, diabetes and healthy eating, along with our new healthy recipe booklet. Children will receive a Diabetes Club Frisbee! (See more Nation Night out events on page 2.)
National Night Out was introduced in August of 1984. NNO has grown to become a celebration beyond just front porch vigils and efforts amongst neighbors to send messages of neighborhood camaraderie. Neighborhoods across the nation now are hosts to block parties, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, along with visits from local police, firefighters and emergency personnel.
Former Senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison stated “The best way to build a safer community is to know your neighbors and your surroundings. National Night Out triumphs over a culture that isolates us from each other and allows us to rediscover our own communities”.
Based on the last report, Illinois had more than 175 cities participating in National Night Out. Nationally, more than 38 million neighbors, from 17,000 communities were actively involved in National Night Out!
November is National Diabetes Awareness Month! Please mark your calendar to save Friday, November 7, for the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley’s second annual gala dinner, “A Night to End Diabetes”, at the Lincoln Inn, 1345 South Batavia Avenue, in Batavia. Cocktails will be at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m..
Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley work together, to provide diabetes awareness in the Fox Valley area, while raising funds to provide aid and education for diabetics, along with investing in research to find a cure. Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision, heart and dental problems, plus nerve and kidney damage. Eat healthy, stay active and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes free!
