The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley will hold it’s May “Meet and Greet”, organized by media chairperson, Ann McBride, to expose our Club and our mission, Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Panera Bread, 1690 S. Randall Road, in Geneva.
Plan on stopping by, meet some of our members, pickup information on diabetes, prediabetes and healthy meal planning, while enjoying a tasty treat, and a great cup of coffee!
Did you know Panera Bread began in 1987 as the St. Louis Bread Company, a humble community bakery founded with a sourdough starter from San Francisco, with a dream of putting a loaf of bread in every arm.
The St. Louis Bread Company was renamed Panera Bread in 1997, to better position the company for national growth. The new name, “Panera”, is derived from the Latin word for “breadbasket” and was intended to be more recognizable and appealing outside of the St. Louis region.
Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley are looking forward to our 3rd Annual “Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes” Golf Outing and Banquet, being held Friday, June 20, at Bliss Creek Golf Course, 1 Golf View Road, in Sugar Grove, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Adam Broholm, golf committee chairperson, said, “Why not join the fifty golfers already signed up? Use our website: diabeteshelpnearme.com or mail your check to: DCFV, P.O. Box 88, North Aurora, IL 60542”.
Matt McCain, golf Committee co-chairperson, said, “We’ve put together a complete golf outing package. Only $150 per golfer, which includes a hot dog lunch, golf cart, goody bag, and a great steak dinner! Why not put your name or business on our Friends of DCFV Sponsorship Banner for $100, or become a hole sponsor: Bronze $200, Silver $300, or Gold for $400. Hole sponsors will be listed in our annual program and on the Friends of DCFV Banner, which will be displayed at the golf outing, and all of our Club’s events, throughout the summer”.
Jenny McCain, fundraising chairperson, said, “We’re in the process of securing donations for our huge raffle, which follows a delicious steak dinner. Please contact me if you wish to donate something for the raffle, have any questions regarding our golf outing, banquet or would like a golf flyer and sponsorship form at: 630-204-1197 or by E-mail: jennymccain@sbcglobal.net”.
Nationally, more than 38 million Americans, approximately 12% of our population, have diabetes, including children. Even more concerning, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimates that 97 million individuals in the United States are prediabetic.
Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage, and loss of limbs. Diet and exercise are two of the most powerful tools we have to help control our blood glucose. Eat healthy, stay active, and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes-free!
