Dear editor;

I am distressed with the Oswego Village Board under mayor Troy Parlier. How can four out of six Board members decide to go ahead and vote for a $750,000 frivolous amphitheater? This is one of the most uncertain periods in modern history.

Every part of people’s lives are turned upside down and the future is very uncertain due to the coronavirus. Everyone is deeply concerned with how and when life may start to get back to a new normal, if at all. And many experts say there is a good possibility that the coronavirus might return again. So how is spending $750,000 showing fiscal responsibility during this period?

We cannot count on just easily returning to life the way it was before the coronavirus. Uncertainty is our current normal, at least for now. People would just like to be able to do their every-day usual activities, not pay $750,000 for an entertainment venue. “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst” is a good motto at this time. If that $750,000 from Oswego taxpayers is burning a hole in your pocket, I have a better idea. Help Oswegoans who have lost their jobs, lost their medical insurance, lost their businesses, can’t pay their bills, or worse.
