Do you like your doctor? Not that he or she is okay, that during the 15 minutes you see him or her once a year, if that, but, do you really like your doctor as a person? Do you know your doctor as a person? I am lucky to say that my doctor, which I see regularly, has my respect both personally and professionally. I knew him as a person when I had the opportunity to work in his office. That resulted in writing about my experience.
Dr. Kenneth Olson of Anodyne Pain & Wellness Solutions in Aurora, in the process of changing its name from Pure Health in Aurora, has been inspirational.
When I was laid off from my corporate job at the end of January 2015, scouring the employment website led to opportunity that sounded familiar. The opportunity turned out to be for my own chiropractor of 13 years! So, I applied online, then contacted the office to let them know of my application. After my interview with a few other candidates I was hired! It was truly one of the best work experiences of my life.
Right away, it was obvious that the predominant aspect about Dr. Olson and his staff members was that they really cared about their patients!
From Dr. Olson’s regular staff meetings it was obvious that he carefully studies the individual cases and discusses their personal needs to determine the best course of treatment in collaboration with the other professionals onboard. Dr. Olson really listens to the input of his colleagues, which include Dr. Lydia Crist, the medical staff members, the manual therapy staff members, and the physical therapy staff members. Everyone who touches the patient has a voice.
It truly touched my heart to see how much he cares. I really didn’t know how much time they spend on each patient.
The staff members offer calm with facts. It is easy for me to be a bit neurotic. Once I thought there might be something wrong with my appendix and Dr. Stock politely said to me, “your appendix is on the other side.”
Over the years, Dr. Olson and his team have helped me with a wide variety of physical care aside from my monthly adjustments, and visits have included treatment such as ice, electrodes, infrared light, manual therapy manual adjustment, and instructions on home therapy. They can treat many different conditions.
When I was a complete wreck with my first bout of vertigo and couldn’t keep anything down, they treated it. With a variety of therapies at their office and the exercises he prescribed for me to do at home, I was healed.
When my son cut his lip and needed stitches, part of his treatment was the infrared light therapy to reduce scarring on his tender lower lip.
Dr. Olson has a talent for finding areas that are problems.
Their former colleague, Dr. Stock, was a whiz at adjusting my ribs after both pregnancies and the following months while my body shrunk to a size prior to my pregnancy.
Dr. Lydia does an awesome job on adjusting my hips when they are sore and/or out of alignment from my kick-boxing workouts.
Dr. John did COVID-19 antibody tests on me and my kids and he was absolutely wonderful with them.
Their office is truly the future of health care, a holistic approach, taking into consideration the entire person and always evolving.
In this unprecedented time of uncertainty and pain, I know with full confidence my time there is worth it.
