Eight young authors in Aurora were celebrated last weekend for publishing their first books!
Ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old, the youth authors are graduates of the third cohort of Dream Scribers, a program through Talented Tenth Social Services, a non-profit organization based in Aurora.
The Dream Scribers and their families gathered at the Aurora Public Library to unveil their new books for the first time. The young authors each had an opportunity to read from their new books, sell copies to family and friends, and sign their first autographs.
Dream Scribers is a free, 12-week program that assists youth with writing, publishing, and marketing their books. In addition, graduates of the Dream Scribers program improve their self-expression, strengthen critical thinking, and enhance vocabulary and public speaking skills.
The young authors are emerging entrepreneurs by selling their books and retaining 100% of the profit. Some use their money to help pay for school expenses and save for college.
Cohort 3 of Dream Scribers include:
- Arianna Banerjee, 16 | Don’t Give Them Power
- Cara Jacob, 15 |Microbiomes: What’s in it for Me?
