Election seasons not necessarily always neat and tidy

Psychologically the human mind seeks neat and clean results. Close one door, open another door. It is helpful and always sounds productive. An example are major elections and election campaigns. Just because Joe Biden has been perceived as the eventual presidential choice when the Electoral College reaches its conclusion December 14, does not mean the political season has reached a conclusion.

Perpetual politics is the persuasion of peers in their element. Neat and clean may not be the end result. Such is the case in elections.

For example, litigation in courts, claims, and proposals are part of the process.

In the U.S. 14th Congressional District, a winner is not evident between first-year incumbent Lauren Underwood and challenger Jim Oberweis. True, early in the process Mr. Oberweis did claim victory, however, not all of the ballots had been counted. Now, with 100% of the precincts reporting, it is too close to call in the District which touches seven counties in northern Illinois: Kane, Kendall, DuPage, Will, DeKalb, McHenry, and Lake.

The vote totals early this week: Lauren Underwood, 53,938, or 50.32%, and Jim Oberweis, 51,427, or 47.98%, according to retiring Kane County Clerk John Cunningham’s office.

Some aspects of the political process take time. Likely we, the electorate, have been spoiled by the television networks, in previous years, rushing to call the winners. Brakes have modified those urges.

In the final analysis, in spite of motives and goals, we should be thankful for dedicated candidates.

Clear and Concise, Week 45:

• Doing the Most Good is a motto, if you will, of the Salvation Army. It resonates today because the need is great and we must have a focus of doing the most good, from providing food to veterans, see below, to understanding our consequences of those who are out of work because of COVID-19 and tangential problems.

• Understanding is an essential requirement in most of life because of forces which impede, concede, recede. Moving in the correct direction is the goal.

• Those who can be helpful in our holiday season should recognize a role to play. There should be a recognition which includes real thanksgiving.
