Music is a part of our lives. For many of us music is an important part of our lives, whether we play an instrument, sing, dance. For some of us appreciation of music, good music, is essential.

The Fox Valley Brass Band will offer a Summer Pops concert Sunday, June 23 at 3 p.m. at Wesley United Church, 14 N. May Street, in Aurora. It is during a traditional Fourth of July Independence musicfest in which Stars and Stripes music likely will be played in honor of the celebration of the U.S. Independence Day.

In fact this year will be the 247th celebration of the Fourth of July Independence Day, in observance of one of most important historical documents signed in world history. Historians point out that the two men most instrumental in the Independence Day celebration were James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.

The Fox Valley Brass Band is a community band, so admission is free of charge, however welcome donations help sustain the music.

The Summer Pops concert will include a concert of show tunes, patriotic melodies, and pop pieces, which The Voice contributing writer, Al Benson, is quick to point out.

Victor Anderson will direct the band. The concert is part of the Summer series by members of the Fox Valley Consortium. Other members are parts of the Fox Valley Jazz Band, Fox Chamber Singers, and Fox Valley Orchestra. The group deserves the public to listen and appreciate the music.

Summer music includes Cantigny Park’s 65th Summer music, which will be each Thursday in Winfield. There will be special Family Nights on Wednesdays, August 2 and August 16. New this year is music until 10 p.m. each Wednesday through Sunday all Summer. Adults are $15 each for admission, seniors, $12 each, and ages 15 and under are let in free of charge.

Every day we can be exposed to political chatter of one type or another. It is all good and we should understand the perspectives, but, we do not have to agree with any of the perspectives.

Solutions:

  • Be a good listener;
  • Understand and make an effort to understand;
  • Be respectful;
  • It is okay to change your mind, be receptive;
  • Be thoughtful, truly;
  • Do not automatically be dismissive.

None of us has all of the answers, however, we can work on finding solutions.

The above solutions are part of the American spirit in being respectful and seeking answers.

We can be grateful during the spirit of Independence Day and beyond. Truly!
