Evelyn Rackmyer celebrates 104 years, active life

Jennings Terrace resident, Evelyn Rackmyer, celebrated her 104th birthday January 3. A remarkable woman with a zest for life, Rackmyer has lived through more than a century of incredible change and continues to inspire those around her.

Born in Richmond, Ill., January 1, 1921, Rackmyer has led a full and vibrant life. Her experiences include extensive world travel, exploring diverse cultures and creating lasting memories. A lifelong history enthusiast, she has dedicated countless hours volunteering at the Aurora Historical Society, sharing her passion for the past with others.

Evelyn was an Aurora Historical Society board member, longtime volunteer at the Tanner House museum, named volunteer of the year in 2012, and clerk in the downtown museum store.

Rackmyer’s professional life also reflects her adventurous spirit. She worked for the CB&Q railroad of Aurora, contributing to a vital part of American history. Her love of learning is evident in her passion for reading.

Currently residing at Jennings Terrace, a local non-profit nursing home, Rackmyer is a beloved member of the community. The staff and residents are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion with her.

“Evelyn is an inspiration to us all. Her impact on our community in her volunteering cannot be overstated. Aurora is rich with history, and she made sure people knew it,” said JoMarie Silver, administrator of Jennings Terrace.

Jennings Terrace is a non-profit skilled nursing home and sheltered care community with a mission: to provide safe and affordable housing for seniors in a homelike environment.

All seniors should have a quality place to call home, where they feel respected and comfortable. Since 1943 Jennings Terrace has provided safe, affordable housing and elder health care services for adults aged 50-plus.
