It took a quarter of the season for the Chicago White Sox to win a series at home.
Thanks to a shutout by Sox starter Renaldo Lopez for eight innings and an inning of relief by Jace Fry in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers, the Sox took the four-game series with three victories.
There were positive signs, by the Sox, lacking for much of the season.
Pitching was a welcome part for the Sox. Not once in the four games did the Sox score more than five runs, yet, they won three games.
The teams split the first two games.
Saturday and Sunday produced the best back-to-back showing of the season for the Sox.
Saturday, in front of more than 25,000 at Guaranteed Rate Field, the Sox trailed 3-0, before storming back for a 5-3 victory.
Nice things came together last Sunday for the Sox when starter Lopez and reliever Fry combined for the shutout.
The Sox started this week’s four-game home series with the Baltimore Orioles with a 13-30 record, worst record in Major League Baseball.
The Cleveland Indians, 22-23, led the division with the Sox 8½ games back.
