Aurora Lions Club will offer free youth vision exams at Santori Aurora Public Library’s third annual early childhood resource fair Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library, 101 S. River Street in Aurora.
The public is invited to the family event for children through age five. Features will include face-painting, a meet and greet with Winnie the Pooh and raffles for gift baskets and two strollers. Parking and admission are free.
Trained Lions volunteers will screen youth ages six months to six years. Volunteers use a handheld Plusoptix screener to check eye health of kids for near-sightedness, called myopia; far-sightedness, hyperopia; and astigmatism, egg-shaped eye.
Adults are notified if a screening indicates a vision problem that requires a comprehensive exam. Vision cameras are supported by a grant from Lions International Foundation.
Aurora Lions will continue monthly exams from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the library. Registration is not required, walk-ins are welcome. Aurora Lions conduct exams on the third Saturday of each month at the downtown library.
