The Friends of the Yorkville Public Library is beginning its annual membership drive and looks to the Yorkville area community for support. Yorkville Public Library is at 902 Game Farm Road, Yorkville.
This group, a non-profit organization, believes in the importance of the Library to the entire community and recognizes that organized support from concerned citizens contributes to the success of the Library’s programs and services.
A “Friend” is a supporter of the Library who pays a small annual membership fee. A member can be active, volunteering time for projects, or supporting, dues-paying only. Friends sponsor and volunteer at fundraising events and work on special projects and programs.
In the past year, the Friends sponsored Library programs, given contributions to the children’s and adults’ Summer reading program, Help provide funds for the Library’s subscription to the “BookPage” and given money to the Library for the purchase of new books.
Fundraising by the Friends is vital in order to support Library programs. The on-going sale of used books in the Library’s lobby and the annual Used Book Sale over Labor Day weekend are important sources of funds. The Mini Golf FUN Raiser is a fundraiser that not only brings in money for the Library, but provides a great Winter activity for the community. Membership dues are a key component of fundraising.
This year, because of COVID-19, these activities will not be held, and that means no additional funds for the Library.
Becoming a Friend is easy, and information is available at www.yorkville.lib.il.us, or at the library. Memberships are $12 per individual; $20 for a family. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 10:15 a.m. at the Library. Members are welcome, but not required, to attend.
