Frigid weather should not be a surprise to us in the northern part of Illinois section of the planet. January means cold weather. We have been blessed/suffered(?) with mild weather the last few years sufficient enough to have us endure chatter on global warming. We have not heard such talk the last few days. Just being above zero degrees Fahrenheit is breaking news. Historians will record our fate, however, warmer days with vehicle exhaust receives the majority of attention.
•Prior to the frigid streak the last few days, there were plans to hold a free Plano Food Pantry from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. Anyone in need of free food are given a welcome to walk through or drive through at First Lutheran Church in Plano, 200 N. Center Street. Fresh fruit, veggies, bread items frozen meat, canned goods, milk, eggs, and other good food, will be available.
•The help that communities provide is heartening because we never know when assistance will be needed by our families. The willingness to be helpful is a desirable trait in most of our communities. Offering a helpful hand is a blessing in our communities. We should be willing to offer a helping hand and if needed, to take a helping hand. Those are decisions each of us must make with a glad heart.
•Dr. Robert Renteria has written a nice piece on bullying, gangs, their effects on society, and what we can do to help our youngsters and each other. The first opportunity for The Voice, we will include the full article of interest.
•The Venue in Aurora in downtown will be host to Cesar Rosas of the iconic group Los Lobos, Friday, Jan. 19 in downtown Aurora, The blues music will include his playing with The Chi-Town Playboys, which includes well-regarded Chicago musicians Dave Herrero, Ari Seder, Gerald Dowd, Chuck Lacy, Dan Ingenthron, and Scott Tipping. Rosas is most widely associated with the hit “La Bamba”. The Venue is at 21 S, Broadway in downtown Aurora.
•Planning ahead: The active Naperville Jaycees will hold its Last Fling Labor Day Weekend, The event will be Friday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 2. The Jaycees are ready to go to work or community enjoyment.
“We are looking forward to bringing the community together for another fun weekend of fundraising for local not-for-profits,” said Danielle Tufano, 2024 Last Fling co-director. “Our Entertainment Committee hopes to see a variety of band submissions so that we can continue to provide something for everyone to enjoy on the Jackson Avenue Stage over Labor Day Weekend” Musical artist submissions will be accepted through the end of the day Wednesday, Jan. 31 through the event website LastFling.org/JacksonStage only.
