Fundraiser for Starfish Rescue Dec. 9
Starfish Animal Rescue, a Batavia-based no-kill shelter, will hold an annual bake sale, pizza lunch, and gift basket raffle fundraiser from noon to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Riverside Pizza & Pub,102 E. Main Street, St. Charles. The public is invited. Admission is free.
Homemade baked goods, half-priced pizza, a 50-50 raffle and festive gift baskets will be featured. Proceeds will benefit Starfish animal-rescue operations.
With a shelter at 167 Oswalt Street in Batavia, Starfish mobilizes volunteers to drive dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from rural Kentucky communities for adoption or fostering in Chicago-area homes.
Founded in 2006, Starfish has saved almost 6,000 animals.

20th St. Lucia Festival in Batavia
The Swedish American Children’s Choir will present the 20th annual Swedish Christmas and St. Lucia Festival at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln Street in Batavia and feature music by the choir directed by Marguerite Karl with special guests the Salvation Army Brass Ensemble and Piano Duo Emma Foelske and Beth Lawniczak. Other featured musicians will be Margaret Lekander, violinist; Julia Lekander, flute; Jason Lekander, guitar; and Shirley Fox, piano soloist.
This year’s St. Lucia, Queen of Light, is Michelle Shrout of Geneva.
Following the concert, a Swedish Christmas Sweet Table will be served and Jul Tomte-Swedish Santa will visit with the children and baked goods will be for sale.
Tickets are by reservation only and $15 for adults and $8 for children, six to 12 years old. Reservations can be made by calling the choir office at 630-414-9700.
