Girls Who Code, Virtual 3-D Painting, at Yorkville Library

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in April. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

Yorkville Public Library continues to offer regular operating hours. The Library is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Face coverings must be worn in the building. Curbside service is available.

• STEM at Home, Thursday, April 1.

Ms Jennette will create projects by using common household items. The YPL Facebook page will have the instructional video.

• Girls Who Code, Saturdays beginning April 3 at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., through Zoom for13 weeks, third through fifth grade girls.

Third through fifth grade girls will build foundational skills and the understanding of computer science concepts while forming a sisterhood through reading discussions and coding activities.

Registration is on the YPL website for the 13-week virtual, Saturday- morning program, to learn new skills by completing fun and simple online coding tutorials and build a community through interactive activities with your Club. When you register for this program, you will be sent a link for Girls Who Code, to become a member.

• Virtual 3-D Printing

Leah English will provide a step- by-step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy to use 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object that we can print on our 3D printer. The Library’s website provides a link to the YPL YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed piece. Prints cost $0.20 per gram.

• National Library Week, Sunday April 4 through Saturday, April 10.

Yorkville Library has several activities planned throughout the week. Participants may stop any day to help solve a mystery in the Library. Someone has destroyed one of the library’s books, but who? You will use the information packet to find out who is the culprit! Social distancing and masks are required.

Participants may guess the number of books are in the Yorkville Library! Answers will be placed in a drawing for a bag of books. Good luck.

There will be a scavenger hunt for little ones. Your child will receive a list of Library items to find and check out.

• Dog Man Digital Escape Room, Monday, April 5.

Scholastic superhero, Dog Man, found himself in this Escape Room! Dog Man books by Dav Pilkey are recommended for kids ages six and older. For such an Escape Room, younger kids should be joined by an adult to help them.

• Crafts To Go! is every Monday in April at Yorkville Public Library

The Library will provide a craft kit. They are available each Monday in the Library foyer while supplies last. Weekly themes for craft kits include: Spring, weather, and Easter. Limit one kit per child.

• TAG- Teen Advisory Group at the Yorkville Public Library, Tuesday, April 6 and 20, 2:45 p.m..

This year our TAG members are focusing on being the change by giving back to the community. Teens in grades eight to 12 get together to share ideas about the teen area in the Library and how to provide for Yorkville. They help create and plan programs. This group has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new persons and have some fun and laughs. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Book Club, first and second grades, Thursday, April 8 and 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Yorkville Public Library

In the two session book club, we will read the book, “Mia Mayhem” by Kara West. Please register for both days on the YPL website. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Drop In Story Time at the Library, Friday, April 9 and 23, 10:30 a.m. at Yorkville Public Library

Join us at YPL for Drop In Story Time with Ms. Jennette. This story time will be held in our large meeting room, the Michelle Pfister Room.

• Drop in Story Time, every Friday on YPL Facebook, (virtual)

Each Friday morning watch Ms Jennette read a story on the Yorkville Public Library Facebook page.

• YA Teen Book Club at the Yorkville Public Library, Friday, April 9, 3 p.m..

Leah English will lead the group in a discussion about this month’s book, “Dear Martin” by Nic Stone. The book is at the Youth Service desk for pick up prior to April 9. Please contact Leah at lenglish@yorkville.lib.il.us if you have any questions.* Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Book Club- third and fifth grades, Tuesday, April 13 and 27, 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m..

In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book on April 13 and read it at home. Then it will be discussed at the following session on April 27. Please register for both days on the YPL website. * Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Animal Adventure Digital Escape Room, Monday, April 19.

The animals are loose! Can you help the zookeeper round up the animals that have escaped and return them to their home at the zoo? This digital escape room is great for lower and middle elementary grades.

• National Superhero Day, Wednesday, April 28

• Poem in your Pocket, Thursday, April 29.

Poem in Your Pocket Day takes place every year on a day in National Poetry Month. Please check the YPL website under Calendar of Events for ways to participate.
