You cherish spending time with your family and bringing multiple generations together, but it’s difficult to find activities that keep everyone entertained. Bring your family to the Aurora Public Library District this Sunday, September 8, for a heartwarming afternoon honoring grandparents and their special bond with their loved ones. This event offers something for everyone, creating lasting memories while connecting families with valuable local resources.
Our Grandparents’ Day Celebration will take place Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Santori Library. This intergenerational event is open to all ages and promises a fun-filled experience for everyone. “We are committed to connecting people and supporting our diverse community through the experiences we offer.” says Event & Program Coordinator Ali Lanthrum. “We hope this event will enrich the lives of all types of families and increase seniors’ sense of belonging within our community.” Whether you have grandparents, step-grandparents, or another special elder adult in your life, this program is a perfect way to show your appreciation.
At the event, attendees can enjoy delicious snacks, get creative at our craft stations, and honor the moment with a complimentary digital family photo captured by Dr. Jean Hess. We are pleased to provide this service for families that attend this event, as a photo is such a wonderful keepsake to remember the fun times together.
But this program goes beyond celebration. It’s also a chance to connect with a wide range of non-profit community partners. Whether you’re looking for information on healthcare services, senior living options or simply ways for your older loved ones to stay engaged in the community, this event offers a wealth of connections. Participating organizations include SciTech, Fox Valley Park District, senior housing providers like Jennings Terrace and Plum Landing, and many more. Take advantage of this opportunity and speak with these organizations to learn more about how they can help you and your family.
In addition to providing engaging and informative programs, we also offer multiple resources for seniors on our website. These resources aim to enhance the quality of life for Aurora community members by providing them with valuable information and support. The Illinois Department on Aging Benefit Access Program and Senior Ride Free Program help low-income senior households by offering a discount on your license plate renewal and free ride benefits on CTA, Metra, and Pace. The Senior Resources Guide, compiled by the City of Aurora, has over 80 pages of information organized into topics like Disability, Legal Services, and Veteran Assistance. Sometimes knowing where to look for help is the main struggle, and the library is always ready to help seniors, or anyone, find what they need. It’s part of our ongoing mission to connect people to community.
We invite our community to celebrate Grandparents’ Day at the library to strengthen family bonds, create lasting memories, and gather important information. Our event, sponsored by Aurora’s Nonprofit Senior Living Panel, is Sunday, Sept. 8 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Santori Library Atrium. To learn more about the program or the senior services we offer, please visit our website www.aurorapubliclibrary.org or contact the library at 630-264-4117.
