Aurora photographer Jean Hess shoots a subject at Santori Aurora Public Library in an inaugural “Haircuts and Headshots” in more than three hours at the Library. Hess, owner of VoicePrintz Media, reported she took 593 photos and processed and delivered 40 sets of headshots from the Saturday event. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Library atrium, the Library was host to “Haircuts and Headshots.” The project was co-sponsored by the Library, Alvaro A. Gutierrez, Jr., owner of Scum Lounge Barbershop, and photographer Jean Hess, both in Aurora. A total of 92 persons attended.

Gutierrez said his inaugural effort at the Library snipped and styles boys from age six and men from the community. Earlier, his barbers gave four hours of free haircuts in a second annual session at East Aurora High School last week.

In addition to Gutierrez, barbers Saturday were Arnulfo Carrillo, Alfonso Guzman, Jose Duran, Damian Bello, Angel Quintino, Bryan Valle, Moisés Martínez, Leonardo Cruz, Angel Mejía, and Alexis Vasquez.

Gutierrez’s shop is at 926 N. Lake St. in Aurora. He offers haircuts, trims, shaves, and styling.

He said he offers free haircuts as a community service to help families prepare to go back to school. “It makes us feel good,” Gutierrez said.
