The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) will be host to Kane County Board members Mavis Bates and Myrna Molina alongside Kendall County Board members Robyn Vickers and Amy Cesich at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. The group will discuss live on Zoom the misunderstandings and misconceptions centered around the ways local government officials can help you and how to contact them.

In this co-sponsored event with the League of Women Voters Aurora Area, these County Board members can explain what your elected County Board officials can do for you. Our elected governing bodies work for us, and want to hear from us. Now that you’ve voted, how do you ensure your voiced concerns are heard and addressed?

With the common goal of educating, empowering and informing citizens on county-level government issues in mind, our four panelists will strive to provide top-notch information on how to ensure you remain in control of a government system elected by us all.

• In addition to her service on the Kane County Council, Bates serves as the chair person of the Valley of the Sierra Club Fox Party in Kane and Kendall Counties, and is the organizer and chair person of the Aurora GreenFest, an annual eco-fest that draws thousands of participants each year to learn more about green living.

• Molina is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and became the first Latina appointed to the Kane County Board in 2006. In 2010, Molina won her first election to the Kane County Board where she has represented Aurora’s most historic areas, including downtown, a portion of the West Side, and mostly East Side district.

• In 2018, Vickers was elected to the Kendall County Council, prior to which she was a parent educator, serving on the Local NAMI (National Mental Illness Alliance) Board.

• In 2017, Cesich became an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional, and has been volunteering with Mutual Ground, a women’s domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Kane County. Since 2018, Cesich has served on the Kendall County Board and has been a member of the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Board for 10 years, now acting as the Board’s secretary.

APLD strives to ensure you feel empowered to stay informed and make a difference on a local scale, so that the changes you and your community desire can be achieved.
