In this family-friendly event, the holiday spirit will be in full swing! Listen to festive holiday music from the Library’s CD collection as you customize your own gift bags and wrapping paper. For adults, we will have materials to create a unique, professional-looking, gift bag. Cut-outs of snowflakes, snowmen, and trees, created by our Makerspace, can be used to decorate along with rolls of colorful, holiday themed washi tape. For children there will be coloring materials, stickers, and stamps of snowmen, stars, trees, and snowflakes. We hope that customers will be excited about the idea of creating beautiful art in the form of gift bags and wrapping paper that can be presented to loved ones as a gift within a gift.

Custom wrapping paper is fun because it is artwork that serves a purpose. Having children create the wrapping paper for a gift makes that gift extra special for the recipient. Children’s librarian, Mindy Mestek, found inspiration for this program on social media. “I got the idea from a video I saw online where a mom needed to wrap a gift quickly and had no wrapping paper, so she used a few sheets of drawing paper her child had been scribbling on with crayons and the gift looked adorable!”

Shortly after Mestek began planning her program for families, Library assistant, Rupangi Bakshi, contacted the Makerspace about creating custom shapes for an adult craft program. Because both the Children’s Department and the Adult Services Department began planning these similar programs around the same time, the idea came about to combine them into one holiday gift wrap making extravaganza!

To create your own festive wrapping paper and gift bags, there is an open invitation to come to the Eola Road Branch Large Meeting Room Monday, Dec. 12 any time between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.. Please note that it is an all-ages crafting program and we will not be wrapping gifts during this time. Imagine the look on your loved one’s face when to see the care and effort put into a one-of-a-kind gift this holiday season!
