Of course, it was a shock: Herschel being gone;
And instantly the thought: Will we carry on?
Perhaps he knew, perhaps he didn’t, but we know
It is because of him the Breakfast Club did grow.
He did not choose to live upon a self-made shelf;
In fact, at times, he was larger than life itself.
We thank him for his dedication and desire
To work for veterans which now we must admire.
It is for us, all those who knew him, to profess
A certainty that in our Herschel God will bless!
