Herschel Luckinbill Road fitting memorial tribute in Oswego

Honorary street signs are common memorials and tributes to deserving individuals. The Oswego Village government, under the leadership of Village president Troy Parlier, named the late Herschel Luckinbill as a recipient of an honorary street name.

Mr. Luckinbill’s lifelong commitment was n service to the United States as a member of the U.S. Navy which continued to the greater Oswego area.

He served as the president of the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club and chairman of the Vietnam Moving Wall committee which brought the Wall to Oswego in 2017. The Wall was at Prairie Point Park off of Plainfield Road which was an appropriate place for the honorary sign and the intersection of Plainfield and Woolley Roads. The resolution was made at the October 5 Village Board meeting.

Mr. Luckinbill played a pivotal role in bringing the Mid-East Conflict Wall to Oswego in 2019.

He led the way to bring a memorial to the fields outside West Aurora High School in 2013. He died July 28, 2021, four months after he and his family built a retirement home site on family land in Charlotte, Tenn..
