Sports competition aim on all levels is for the players to enjoy the ride and entertain the fans, yes! The main aim, however, is victory. Focus is victory.
Many fans of the Chicago Bears, ardent or casual, are frustrated with the lack of victories, especially against ardent rival Green Bay Packers. Packers lead in the all-time series, 106-95, with six ties. Several decades back the Bears led in the series. Once upon a time the two teams were dominant in the National Football League. The Bears were 3-14 last season. Optimism last week may have been extreme for the Bears! Packers won, 38-20. They will play again in ’23
The high school football season has completed one-third of the regular season with three games played. Playoff teams can play up through five additional games, sustenance for building programs.
Twenty-five football teams in our larger purview are at least halfway to playoff berths with 3-0 records. Top teams with 2-1 records which will very likely make to playoffs include Batavia, Naperville Central, Naperville North, Waubonsie Valley; Wheaton North, Willowbrook, Lyons, and St. Charles North. It’s a surprise Glenbard West is 1-2, however, we will watch the next six games.
Because it takes extra space to include high school football standings, here are teams by conference with 3-0 records: Immaculate Conception in the Chicago Catholic/East Suburban (CCL/ESCC) Orange; Carmel, CCL/ESCC Purple, which will play at Marmion, 2-1, in Aurora Friday, Sept. 15; Montini, CCL/ESCC White; Wheaton Christian, Chicagoland Christian; Seneca, Chicagoland Prairie; Geneva, DuKane; Cary-Grove, Prairie Ridge, Huntley, Fox Valley; Sandwich, Richmond-Burton, Kishwaukee River/Interstate8; Blue; Morris, Kishwaukee River/IE8, White; Barrington, Mid-Suburban White; Oswego, West Aurora, Southwest Prairie West; Lockport, Lincoln-Way East, SW Suburban Blue; Lincoln-Way Central, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Stagg, SW Suburban Red; Glenbard South, South Elgin, Upstate Eight; Downers Grove North, York, West Suburban Silver.
