Illinois state Representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, will be participating in the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs Sunday, Aug. 13, in Indianapolis, Ind. and the task force, co-chaired by representative Tina Orwall of Washington and Sen. Bryce Reeves of Virginia, is a multi-state effort. It aims to address vital issues affecting military-community relations and the well-being of service members, veterans, and their families throughout the Nation.
Representative Kifowit, a dedicated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, brings a first-hand understanding of the challenges encountered by the military community. Her appointment to the NCSL Task Force on Military & Veterans Affairs underscores her exceptional track record and unyielding advocacy for veterans and their rights.
The NCSL Task Force meeting will focus on a number of critical topics, ranging from suicide prevention policy initiatives, to improving juvenile justice and access to juvenile and family courts on military installations, to the U.S. Department of Defense’s support to civil authorities during emergencies through the Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) program.
