In the beginning of the separation of individuals in the COVID-19 generated by contact, direct or transmission of bodily fluids, we had the experience of shutting down with fewer activities. Even though there were suggestions fewer activities would lead to fewer news articles in newspapers.
To the contrary, The Voice runs out of space quickly and collects much more information than we have space to accommodate.
Important items this week include:
• Judson University in Elgin, according to Tom Siebert, plans on a Fall semester on campus. The declaration is sooner than other schools are willing to acknowledge. In-person classes have a start date of August 24, unless the COVID-19 outbreak picks up momentum.
• East Aurora School District 31, through a partnership with T-Mobile’s EmpowerED program, is helping to ensure all students will have opportunities to learn at home by providing access to free, reliable, high-speed internet.
• Students in the Plano High School Class of 2020 are invited to participate in a parade Sunday, May 24 with a check-in at 12:15 p.m. at the Plano High School parking lot. That is Memorial Day weekend.
• DuPage County government has developed a website for residents to virtually gather and share stories and photos to honor the memories of fallen heroes, to replace canceled Memorial Day events.
• Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity has started a television advertising campaign to target the Aurora and Naperville areas to help meet the need for an anticipated affordable housing need.
• Residents at GreenFields retirement community in Geneva are seeking pen pals. Call Karen Tomko at GreenFields at 630-473-4734.
• Christ Community Church, with four campuses, held a no-contact food drive May 6 to benefit the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, which seeks to meet the demand of four times the usual requests because of unemployment. The four-drop-off points included campuses in St. Charles, DeKalb, Aurora, and Streamwood. The Church started in 1984 with six couples and now has 5,000 in attendance at the four sites combined.
• DuPage County has launched Reinvest DuPage to provide grants for businesses. Help is here.
Clear and concise, week 19:
• The term social distancing is an implied physical property, however, a person can be close socially through the telephone, or other social devices and have a physical distance. Likely we should use physical distance for maintaining the accepted six-foot gap between persons, not a social distance.
