There is latitude in this column space reserved for this writer. Politics, history, sociology, observations, exclamations, all may appear in this assigned space. There are weeks, however, in which important notes and points are most relevant, in part, because we receive many wonderful articles, press releases, and sources of information. Often there may not be an opportunity to use those items sent to us. Profundities are not necessarily a requirement to be included. Most of which follows here are news items without an assigned space within the pages, and a few other comments could be provided by your faithful servant.
Consider:
• Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) this week announced it has integrated texting into its 911 answering system to, “allow citizens in need of emergency services to reach the 911 dispatch center by text when calling is not an option.”
We may take for granted the 911 services offered until we need assistance. That communication avenue continually should be improved for public use in all our communities. Don’t text and drive. Expanded information is possible on Naperville’s advancement in a future edition of The Voice.
• The League of Women Voters in many communities perform valuable public services. The LWV Aurora Area will participate in a Civic Engagement Series Thursday, Sept. 30 at the Santori Library, 101 S. River Street, Rooms 125, 126 and on Facebook Live and include four School Districts, 308, 204, 131, 129. See thevoice.us/aurora-public-library-district-civic-education-series-school-board-september-30.
• Big Woods may indicate an element of grandeur, however, its focus is restoration of a one-room schoolhouse. Do any of us know someone who attended a one-room schoolhouse? It is an essential part of our history. Big Woods School was on North Eola Road in Winfield Township near Butterfield Road in Aurora. There is a Big Woods Cemetery Walk as a fundraier for the repair of the historic building Saturday, Oct. 16. See thevoice.us/big-woods-cemetery-walk-near-one-room-school-house.
• The annual Oswego Cemetery Walk will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 to visit the early ghosts and pioneers of Oswego. Advance registration is required. Registration is $5. and call the Oswegoland Park District at 630-554-1010 for more information.
• We can enjoy information from our government representatives without political indoctrination, which is most readily visible at the national level. Be good stewards, instead of scoring points.
• Thanks to Aurora Poet Laureate, Karen Christensen, for her good work with poetry, In Remembrance ceremony, Saturday, Sept. 11 at the RiverEdge Bridge.
• Batavia Cadette Girl Scout Troop 1675 will hold a drive-thru donation drive in support of three charities. Donations will be between 10 a.m. and noon, Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Louise White School, 800 N. Prairie Street, Batavia.

• Aurora will hold its Pooch Parade at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at Phillips Park Sunken Gardens. Debi Nolte’s Heidi will be the grand marshal.
Clear and Concise, Week 38, Year 2:
Facts do matter. There is an air in our dialogues in today’s world that stating an opinion as a fact is okay. Please. An opinion is just that and facts do matter, however, facts are facts and unyielding.
