Candidates for political office often begin to file their candidacies in June and offer their visions to be elected. Honesty, positivity, and productivity, should not be in short supply. Too many candidates divert, disgust, and disclaim in a negative vein.
We can do better. We must do better.

- Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity will break ground for a 17-home, net-zero-energy subdivision in Aurora Tuesday, June 27. It should be a welcome site for those who require subsistence assistance. There will be six designs for the 1,500- to 1,700-square-foot homes. Green Freedom is expected to be completed in three years.
- Naperville Park District invites the community to the reopening celebration for the newly-renovated playground at Tall Grass Lakes, 3320 Rollingridge Road, 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 27. The Playground ribbon-cutting is the first of several planned in Naperville.
- Open Roads ABATE of IL, Inc. will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at the Plano American Legion. Agenda items include Legislature updates, Summer plans, group rides.
- Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA) will hold its 25th annual Day in the Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. The Day of Play will be at Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles. It is an opportunity for individuals with, and without, disabilities to celebrate what makes each of us unique. Camps are in St. Charles and South Elgin to Oswego.
