Tyler Jones, Aurora University interim men’s head basketball coach, talks strategy with his Spartans Saturday, Feb. 12, in Aurora. Aurora University named Tyler Jones as interim men’s head basketball coach. Jones had been assistant coach for the Spartan men’s basketball program since 2018. He served under former head coaches Lance Robinson and Matt Airy. Airy, coach of the AU basketball program since spring 2019, resigned a week ago according to an AU spokesman. After a 75-58 loss to visiting Marian University Saturday, Feb. 12, the Spartans’ record fell to 4-17 overall and 3-12 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The loss, on senior night and final home appearance of the season, was Aurora’s eighth straight. Jones joined AU in 2018 after eight seasons at NACC member Concordia University Chicago as the Cougars’ head coach.
