Often we hear the phrase, “It does not matter.” Or, “They do not pay attention, anyway.” Or, “My vote is only one and will not make a difference.”
It does matter. They do listen. One vote does add up, one vote as a time. Our vote should reflect our conscience, not an effort to vote for the winner.
The Consolidated Election will be April 2. It should have crossed the minds of all eligible voters. If not, the Consolidate Election will be April 2.
School boards, aldermen/trustees, mayors, and other important positions are at stake in all of our communities. All of the elections are important.
Although one vote will not change the course of humanity, not offer world peace, it is important we follow through on the dictates of our democracy.
We vote to have a voice. We vote to notify those in power we are watching. We vote to elect those who are more closely aligned with our thinking.
Good government is no accident. The League of Women Voters will celebrate 100 years of non-partisan work to bring out issues and offer exposure.
One stone in the water makes ripples. Still waters in government, with no ripples, can mean stagnation, lack of transparency, and loss of democracy.
It is our duty, honor, obligation, and privilege to vote in all elections which are not party primary elections. April 2 is our time. We must make the best of it.
