Jim Gilbert of Aurora got a free haircut Sunday, March 7, and raised $1,062 from family and friends for childhood cancer research.
Gilbert was among 47 participants in an annual head-shaving event to benefit the Los Angeles-based St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Ballydoyle Irish Pub and Restaurant in Aurora was host to the event from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.. It raised $24,096 for research.
First-place fundraiser was Paul McDermott of Aurora with $3,511 raised. Gilbert took 10th place for fundraising.
In-person and virtual fundraisers continue. Washington Middle School, 231 S. Constitution Drive in Aurora, will be host to a head-shaving event Friday, March 26.
As the largest non-government funding of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is working to find better treatment options and cures for kids.
