The Kane County 4-H Foundation knows that these are difficult times for some families, and any item purchased or donation made, is greatly appreciated. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit University of Illinois Extension programs in Kane County including, including 4‑H Youth Development, Master Gardeners, and Nutrition and Wellness programs.
In fact, part of these funds will support an annual scholarship program, which recognizes older 4-H members for 4-H Youth Development program involvement, 4-H achievements, community service, school involvement and future plans. High school seniors and post-high school students enrolled full-time in an educational program are encouraged to apply. This year’s honorees include:
• Jenna Peters of Maple Park earned the $500 Bob and Alyce Konen Memorial Scholarship and a $500 Kane County 4-H Foundation Educational Scholarship. Jenna is a 10-year 4-H member and graduate of Central High School. She plans to attend Loyola University of Chicago, pursuing a career as a physician’s assistant.
• Mikayla Peters of Maple Park was honored with the $500 Woodman’s Markets Scholarship and a $500 Kane County 4-H Foundation Educational Scholarship. An 11-year member of 4-H, Mikayla plans to attend Kishwaukee Community College before transferring to University of Illinois. Her interests are veterinary medicine and agribusiness.
• Willem Vandermeij of Geneva was awarded a $1,000 Kane County 4-H Foundation Educational Scholarship. A graduate of Geneva Community High School, he plans to attend Cedarville University in the fall to study computer engineering.
All money for these scholarships are made available through fundraising efforts and private donations to the Kane County 4-H Foundation. The Bob and Alyce Konen Memorial Scholarship was first available in 2010 and is made possible through memorial donations from family and friends. The Konens were longtime 4-H supporters.
Donations and monies raised by the Kane County 4-H Foundation also support many countywide events and activities including volunteer support, training, and recognition; 4-H Government Day; Kane County 4-H show activities and awards; educational scholarships; and general University of Illinois Extension office support.
