Following the order of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court’s closing the Aurora Election Commission (AEC) June 15, the Kane County Clerk’s office assumed responsibility for election administration and voter registration for residents living in the Kane County portion of Aurora.
As part of the transition of these functions from the AEC, the County Clerk’s office has started the process of training new election judges on the voting equipment and procedures; training former AEC staff members about the non-election functions of the County Clerk’s office such as vital records, tax extension, and passports; and educating the voters of Aurora about the voting equipment they will be using beginning in this Fall’s general election.
Updated voter registration cards were mailed to all registered voters residing in the Kane County portion of Aurora. The voter registration cards included the name and location of the polling place where the voter will vote. Residents can contact the Clerk’s office at 630-232-5990 with any questions about their voter registration cards.
Clerk John A. Cunningham said, “We continue to move forward with our transition plan. We have already started educating the more than 50,000 registered voters in the 63 precincts in Aurora about what they can expect this Fall. We have done our best to minimize the changes to the voters as they go through this transition.”
In addition to assuming election functions in Aurora, the Kane County Clerk will open a satellite office at 5 E. Downer Place, Suite F, in downtown Aurora, at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.
