Kane County clerk John A. Cunningham announced that the County Clerk’s Office will operate by appointment only at the Clerk’s Geneva location, 719 S. Batavia Avenue, Building B, until further notice. The Aurora location was closed temporarily March 24.
Residents who wish to make appointment should call the Clerk’s Office at 630-232-5950.
Cunningham said, “We have taken these steps to limit the amount of people entering the office as advised by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and other agencies regarding the coronavirus health emergency. You will find instructions at our website, kanecountyclerk.org, about how to order copies of vital records and other documents online, or by mail. You can also information and links to all departments within the Clerk’s Office.”
As required by State law, individuals who wish to get married or have a civil union in Kane County must appear in person at the office to complete the application and pay the license fee. However, applicants are encouraged to complete the online questionnaire at www.kanecountyclerk.org/VitalRecords/Pages/Marriage-License.aspx from home to limit time spent in the office.
Cunningham said, “The Clerk’s Office provides ‘essential government services’ as defined by the Governor’s Executive Order. Despite the health emergency, some individuals will still need services provided by our office. We are doing our best to provide these services while taking precautions to protect the health of our valued customers and staff. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.”
Individuals who have traveled to an area that has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak (China, Iran, South Korea, Italy, parts of Europe and Japan), have had contact with any person diagnosed with COVID-19, or have any symptoms of a respiratory infection, persistent cough, fever, or shortness of breath, are asked to avoid coming to the office and should call 630-232-5950 for assistance.
The Kane County Clerk’s Office performs several major functions, including custodian of County records, election administration, registrar of vital records, passport acceptance agency, and tax extension. Developing new and innovative ways to serve the public has been a focus for Cunningham and the Clerk’s Office.
