Harvest of the Acorn Moon, a family celebration, Sunday at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, helps bring in Autumn with folk music, hikes, pumpkin-painting, games, and crafts. The weather was clear. The Harvest Moon Monday, Sept. 24 was hidden with cloud covering.
When Illinois became a state, 200 years ago, the prairie stretched as far as the eye could see. Oak woodlands dotted the land and wetlands teemed with life. These native landscapes have changes since statehood.
A presentation by Ben Haberthur, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Barbara Belding Lodge Brewster Creek Forest Preserve, 6N921 IL Route 25, St. Charles, will describe the ecological transformation of Illinois and explain why natural ecosystems are rare today. He will discuss region-wide efforts to restore Illinois’ splendid prairies, woodlands, and wetlands.
