Kane County Health Dept. and Sharon Cabrera honored

The Kane County Health Department (KCHD) and Sharon Cabrera, KCHD Substance Use Prevention Specialist, were honored by the Kane County Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) at the annual DuPage and Kane County ROSC Awards, which recognize outstanding organizations and individuals dedicated to addressing substance use and mental health challenges across the region.

Sharon Cabrera was honored with the Community Leader Award for her vision, compassion, and commitment to harm reduction initiatives. In addition, KCHD was named Organization of the Year in recognition of its leadership and continued commitment to harm reduction, outreach, and collaboration throughout Kane County.

“Sharon is a thoughtful collaborator, a tireless advocate for the recovery community in Kane County, and someone whose work often goes under the radar and yet is so important,” said Annette Villareal, Kane County ROSC Coordinator.

“We were thrilled to be able to name the Kane County Health Department our Organization of the Year,” Villareal continued. “The Kane County Health Department has embraced harm reduction, outreach, and collaboration and continues to lead the fight against addiction in Kane County.”

“These awards reflect the heart of recovery-oriented work: meeting people where they are, leading with compassion, and building systems that truly support healing,” said Michael Isaacson, KCHD Executive Director. “The collaboration between KCHD and the Kane County Recovery-Oriented System of Care is grounded in shared values and a mutual commitment to supporting individuals and families on their recovery journeys.”
