Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham has certified the final election results from the March 17, 2020 General Primary Election. Following the canvass of all ballots, including vote by mail ballots postmarked on or before Election Day, the election results for all contests, from president down to local races, and local referenda are now official.
Official results are available on the County Clerk’s website at kanecountyclerk.org/Elections/Pages/Election-Results-Archive.aspx. The website includes results for the entire County as well as for all 291 Kane County precincts.
Clerk Cunningham said, “I want to thank the voters of Kane County for doing their civic duty and voting in the March 17 General Primary Election. Although the coronavirus pandemic played a role in the turnout on Election Day, I am thrilled that so many of you took the opportunity to vote early and vote by mail. We set records in a Primary Election for early voting and vote by mail ballots cast.”
A total of 76,969 ballots were cast in the Primary Election, and 25.2% of all registered voters cast ballots. Of those ballots, more than 29,000 early votes were cast and nearly 3,900 Vote by Mail ballots were returned. The previous record for early votes in a Primary Election was 18,281 in 2016. The most vote by mail ballots returned in a Primary Election previously was 1,789 in 2018.
Cunningham thanked several groups for their assistance in making the election successful despite the challenging circumstances. He thanked voters for their patience on Election Day. Cunningham thanked the dedicated election workers, including election judges, who were on the frontlines assisting voters. He thanked the community partners in the Voter Outreach Program (VOP) who displayed messages on their signs to help increase Early Voting turnout.
Cunningham added, “While we have learned a great deal in how to deal with a health emergency in the middle of an election and we will continue to follow CDC guidelines for polling place safety in future elections, I would like to encourage voters to consider voting by mail in the November 3 General Election. Voters who choose to vote by mail can vote from home to avoid lines and public interaction on Election Day. Vote by Mail ballot requests can be made as early as August for the November election.”
