Kane County was host to its first recycling pop-up in the parking lot of the Aurora Ace Hardware at 994 N. Lake Street Saturday, March 5. The event brought as much traffic in four hours at the more visible location than in an entire week at its former location down a tough-to-find driveway across Route 31 (Lake Street). We call that a success! “We are experimenting to see if a more visible collection point will result in more traffic and better serve the public,” said Clair Ryan, Kane County Recycling coordinator. “We are very grateful to the Ace Hardware owner for working with us on this.”
The Aurora pop-up recycling center will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the Spring in the parking lot of Ace Hardware at 994 N. Lake Street (Route 31).Residents of Aurora and surrounding towns can drop off any number of household items, including electronics, clothing, and shoes, home textiles, books, magazines, paper, scrap, and scrap metal. The vast majority of items are accepted for free. There is a $25-$35 fee for computer monitors and televisions depending on screen size, a $1 fee per aerosol item, and a $3.50 fee per propane tank (16 oz. and smaller only). Fees may be paid on site with cash, credit, debit or can be pre-paid online.
