The Oswego Village Board approved president Ryan Kauffman’s nomination of Karen Novy to fill the vacant trustee seat at Wednesday’s special Village Board meeting. After the vote, Novy was sworn in by Judge John McAdams and participated in the meeting.
“Karen is a wonderful member of this community. She brings a huge amount of experience, talent and wisdom to the Village Board,” said Village president Ryan Kauffman. “I’m confident that she will be an excellent addition.”
A 20-year resident of Oswego, Novy previously served on the Village’s Planning and Zoning Commission. She is on the Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters Aurora Area and served as a committee member on School District 308’s Financial Advisory and Operations Board. In addition, Novy was a founding member of Oswego Kiwanis and has dedicated time volunteering for Community Cares and in the community’s schools.
“I’m honored by the appointment and excited to serve Oswego,” said Novy. “I look forward to working closely with president Kauffman and the trustees.”
The vacancy was due to the resignation of trustee Luis Perez in May. Novy will serve until the 2025 Consolidated Election at which time a candidate will be elected to complete the remaining two-year term of the vacant seat.
All Village of Oswego elected officials serve four-year terms on a staggered cycle, with a Consolidated Election held the first Tuesday in April of years ending with an odd number. The Village operates under the Trustee-Village form of government, in which an elected Village Board president and six trustees set policy and appoint a professional administrator to oversee the day-to day operations of government services and programs.
