Dear editor;
Kneeling is a sign instituted by God. It is not a sin, nor a crime. Those who interpret it as a protest coming from low class, common fans, should be fired.
The backlash to the press corp and its owners should be addressed from church pulpits of all denominations. To suggest that kneeling is culturally unacceptable reveals an anti-Christian mindset that the press supports.
“To clarify, no members of the Philadelphia Eagles team that knelt during the playing of the National Anthem at the NFL awards ceremony were protesting,” said Mike Wallace of the Eagles.
I wish the same could be said or written about church-goers. Genuflecting in church has become a relic. And don’t expect us to touch the ground with our knee, ouch!
I am afraid the next sacred gesture to become distasteful will be the sign of the Cross. Don’t laugh. I have not heard a sermon on these once holy traditions. In school I was taught to make the sign of the Cross when passing a Catholic Church in honor of the Blessed Sacrament contained in the tabernacle. Holy Smoke coming from the lit candles seems to be just dust.
Singing hymns at mass or the responses was supposed to be us parishioners practicing for Heaven. What simpletons we were. Traditions, language, and gestures are disappearing, right along with attendance.
