Legal action against Dems illegal budget process

State representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) joined legal action to challenge the process utilized by Illinois Democrats to ram through the State’s fiscal year 2026 budget in the middle of the night.

“Enough is enough,” said Davis. “For too long, Illinois Democrats have disrespected the institution of the Illinois General Assembly through their tactics to silence opposition, prevent open debate, and adjust the rules to fit their own radical agenda. Utilizing these tactics to force through a bloated budget is not only wrong – it’s illegal.”

May 31, the Illinois House of Representatives passed the FY26 budget. These three bills, comprised of more than 5,000 pages, were dropped with less than 18 hours of review time for lawmakers before coming to a vote.

Under current Illinois law, each bill must be read onto the record three times on three separate days. However, the FY26 budget was a ‘gut-and-replace’ amendment on a shell bill, meaning the amended text of the bill containing the budget was not read onto the record three times.

Rep. Davis concluded, “The never-ending rule suspensions, shell bills, limited debate, and other deceptive and manipulative tactics need to end NOW. It’s time for us to fight back against the dirty games Illinois Democrats have been playing for decades at your expense.

“See you in court.”
