The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 continues to celebrate its centennial anniversary of serving veterans and families in the Aurora area by presenting another family band concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at the Barn Venue at Blackberry Farm, 100 S. Barnes Road, Aurora, near the main parking lot. Music will be provided by the award-winning Aurora American Legion Band.

“The award-winning Aurora American Legion band brings its selection of patriotic songs for residents to enjoy,” said Commander Mike Eckburg, “as a continuation of celebration of our Post’s centennial anniversary, we are providing this entertainment for the public. Families, young and old, are invited to enjoy the band.

“I know the hard work and dedication the members of the Aurora American Legion Band put in to delivering a stellar performance. I hope everyone can come out and enjoy the music.”

The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 has a membership of more than 300 members and meets on the second Friday of each month at Colonial Café in Aurora. Throughout the years, the Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion has been a long-standing supporter of youth baseball, the American Legion Band, Boys and Girls State, in addition to co-host of the Independence Day parade with the city government of Aurora.

There are more centennial celebration events being planned throughout this year.

The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 was founded in 1919, and is one of the oldest posts in Illinois. Its name is in memory of Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of president Theodore Roosevelt, who was killed in WWI in aerial combat over France on Bastille Day, July 14, 1918.
