• Kane County’s recycling guidelines: On average one in four items placed in a recycling cart is not recyclable, which has led to increased contamination. Plastic containers such as bottles, tubs, jugs, and jars are allowed, but flexible plastic packaging, pouches, bags, and wraps are not recyclable. Other items not to be recycled include: Used paper plates, greasy pizza boxes, used paper towels/napkins/tissues, loose shredded paper, paper cups with wax/plastic coating, plastic utensils/plates/cups/lids/straws, plastic bags, plastic toys, empty bottles of motor oil/pesticide/chemical, garden hoses, wire, cords, clothing, food waste, polystyrene, glass from windows/bakeware/mirrors/drinking glasses/batteries. Plastic bags and plastic film are recyclable, but only at grocery store drop-boxes. Refrain from crushing aluminum cans or any recyclable containers. Cardboard boxes must be flattened to no larger than three feet by three feet. For more information visit www.countyofkane.org/recycling.
