An Aurora letter carrier has appealed for donations of hand sanitizer and wipes for postal employees.
Tony Hutson, a City letter carrier and regional administrative assistant at National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), posted an appeal on his Facebook page.
He said, “We are in desperate need. The USPS is a large entity but even the Postal Service has found itself helpless in obtaining necessary personal protection products.”
Hutson asked that mail patrons leave sanitizer bottles and wipes in mail boxes for pickup by carriers.
According to Hutson, “The Postal Service is still operating during this difficult time, ensuring timely delivery of parcels and other mail. Your letter carrier continues to make their rounds as we always do. However, we are struggling because we are in desperate need of hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes.
“We will be making more and more delivery of essential goods as the public is urged to stay home. We may be the only lifeline for the most at risk of our communities. If you have even a small bottle of sanitizer to spare or package of sanitizing wipes, please consider leaving them in your mailbox with a note letting your letter carrier know they can take them.
“We will all get through this trying time and be okay if we all work together.”
