Poem: Make Sure Your Prayers Have Substance

Share this article:

To me, a prayer must have a substance to it;
Not just a wishful thought then running through it.
That wishful thought may have good thought behind it,
But not be pertinent enough to bind it.
A prayer must always move the world around it;
That means, the very things that will surround it.
An answered prayer may signal your reaction;
Quite firmly set to gain your satisfaction.
To pray to have a flood go down is wasteful;
To pray for safety in that flood is tasteful.
So much of God’s designs are foreign to us,
Our prayers are useless unless God sees through us.
So substance in our prayers must be revealing;
Not something, to our eyes, we find appealing.
