Many awards pay tributes, LaSalle Auto Show back in drive

There are items to consider while we ponder the arrival of both the Saturday, Sept. 21 Friends of the Fox River clean-up in seven Kane County communities and the 10th Aurora GreenFest at the Prisco Center and McCullough Park of the Fox Valley Park District from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Awards, conventions, expos, rescheduled auto show, and scholarship awards all can sneak beneath the headlines. Nonetheless, all are important items. Our communities do have plans, pick popular items to portray, refuse to be idle, and just reflect energy:

• The Historic LaSalle Street 11th Annual Auto Show in Aurora will be Sunday, Sept. 22 after postponement in August because of inclement weather. LaSalle Street, one block east of Broadway in downtown Aurora, many years ago was site to fledgling auto dealerships. It is always a good time and the military veterans in the Aurora area will be honored.

• The SHARE Fox Valley Women’s Power Lunch Thursday, Sept. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pipers Banquets on Butterfield Road in Aurora, will honor Cathy Ferrel. The keynote speaker will be Tee Marie Hanible, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

• The active Batavia Chamber of Commerce will present the 2019 Donna Dallesasse Award to Holly Deitchman, communications manager for the Batavia Public School District 101. The presentation will be at the 13th annual award from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Abbey Farms, 2855 Hart Road in Aurora. The cost of the event is $30. • The Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce introduces Jessica Linder, the new president and chief executive officer (CEO), of its organization. She will start Monday, Sept. 23. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Jessica Linder in leading the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce,” said Andy Guzauskas, chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors. She had been the executive director of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce in west central Illinois.

• The 137th session of the Chicago Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will be September 24-28 at St. John AME Church, 2950 Bilter Road, Aurora. The opening service will be at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

• Arbor Day in Montgomery will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Montgomery Police Station, 10 Civic Center Drive, in Montgomery.

• The Oswego Literary Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill, Oswego. Entry is free. Those who attend will have opportunities to meet authors of many genres. There will be live music, a children’s section with children’s authors, crafts, and a bounce house.

• State representative Stephanie Kifowit, Oswego, will be host to an annual Kid Expo and Touch-a-Truck from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center, 828 Montgomery Road in Aurora. Families can go to the Kid Expo, then go to the Prisco Center, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., for the 10th annual GreenFest.

• They will eat green cake, at noon at the GreenFest in celebration of 10 years of service. Solar panels provided by IBEW Local 134 and the solar cars will be interesting.
