Marmion Academy senior Nicholas Coffman, son of Terry and Nicole Coffman of Aurora, is a recipient of the 2020 Ted Brattin Youth Service Award, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Aurora and the Navy League of the United States-Aurora Council. Ted Brattin was an Aurora businessman who was involved in founding the Aurora Council of the Navy League and the Aurora-Naperville Rotary Club. This annual award is presented to Fox Valley youth ages 14-19 who, like Brattin, have exhibited qualities of citizenship, service and leadership through activities in school, church or community.

The honor includes a $100 award and a Certificate of Recognition which would have been presented to Coffman at a special award ceremony December 7. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s ceremony did not take place.

Coffman was nominated for this award by Marmion Academy’s Director of Campus Ministry and Student Life, Mark Malkowski who said, “Nicholas’ qualities of humility, generosity, and genuineness are at the heart of who he is as an individual and as a leader. Continuously throughout his high school career, he has demonstrated these traits through his model of leadership and commitment to service, especially by his integral involvement in many aspects of the Campus Ministry program at Marmion.”

“Nicholas is never one to seek the spotlight, but rather is driven by his unrelenting desire to benefit others,” wrote Malkowski in his letter of recommendation. “He maintains a character and a spirit of humility, authenticity, and giving that is truly second to none. His constant pursuit to do what is right sets an inspirational example for all to follow. There is no doubt that Nicholas’ values, dedication, record of service, and generous leadership qualify him as an outstanding nominee to receive The Ted Brattin Youth Service Award.”
